BlackBerry values Free/Open Source Software

BlackBerry has recently come out with their Z10 phone and BB10 operating system. While the operating system is proprietary (based on QNX), BlackBerry doesn’t hesitate to contribute some code under free/open source licenses. They have a github site that lists over 70 public repositories.

I can’t find any information on other FOSS libraries for BB10 but it is a very positive sign that BlackBerry cares about how easy their platform is to build upon. Web developers especially demand that the core libraries they use in JavaScript to be licensed under a free/open source license with many of the most prominent frameworks being licensed under the MIT license.
